This suite of learning resources was originally created as part of Science Based Target Network's (SBTN) “Train the Trainer” program. The resources aimed to equip their network of Partners and Service Providers to support businesses setting targets, but the content is equally valuable for businesses navigating this process independently – or exploring what’s involved.

5 learning modules walk through the first 3 steps in the target-setting journey, from assessing and prioritising impacts on nature to setting freshwater and land targets. The resources cover:
- technical overviews of SBTN’s guidance
- insights from companies that have piloted the process
- answers to common questions on data, stakeholder engagement, validation and more.

Use these resources to:
- understand what’s required before kicking off
- align colleagues around key concepts and expectations
- make the business case with peer examples
- troubleshoot implementation questions as they arise.

About the Publisher

The Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) is a civil-society and science-led initiative. It was founded in 2019 by a group of global NGOs to help collectively define what is necessary for companies and cities to do 'enough' to stay within Earth’s limits and meet society’s needs.
Founding partners are CDP, World Resources Institute, WWF, United Nations Global Compact (also the founding partners of the Science Based Targets initiative) as well as Conservation International, UNEP-WCMC, and World Economic Forum. The SBTN is a fiscally sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors: a non-profit organisation (501c3) that accelerates philanthropy in pursuit of a just world.
