The Ecosystem Health Monitoring Program (EHMP) was established in 2000, making it one of the first environmental monitoring and reporting programs in Australia. The EHMP is a comprehensive and scientifically robust waterway monitoring program which provides a regional assessment of the health for each of South East Queensland’s major catchments, river estuaries, and Moreton Bay zones.

Every year, the results are synthesised and communicated through the Healthy Land and Water Report Card. The Report Card summarises information from the monitoring program into a 'snapshot' of catchment and waterway health to identifies trends and emerging risks. The Report Card raises public awareness of issues that impact waterway health and supports decision-making relating to the management of waterways across the region.

The Healthy Land and Water Report Card demonstrates how collecting local data on specific ecosystems can identify environmental trends over time. This data can be used by businesses to consider their interface with nature and inform their nature strategies.
